CHARLOTTE HEYMANN, MOTHER OF ELI 9 Y.O.

Education

Very very “mommy”! I have always imagined myself creating a family. My little sister is ten years younger than me and I had always taken care of her when I was younger. I was also very closed to my brother.

I love being surrounded by children and that’s probably what attracts them!

I wanted to be present in my son’s life and never to miss a thing in his education. This fact has also influenced my professional choices: creating my own business was obvious to be able to organize my time by myself.

At the same time I want to have a close relationship with him and I stay rather firm: he knows there are limits and no tolerance to whims.

Passing down

I try to guide him and to talk to him about things I find essential in a man’s life: spirit of openness, respect, joy of life, pleasure of spending time together, and curiosity that is a real driving force in life! But also a meaning of work and family traditions. I talk to him about all this because I don’t believe in the “evidence” in this matter. I am convinced that the capacity of being happy can be learnt and passes down every day. That’s why all those words are important.

To play

All board games are great for sharing moments with family. Nowadays we play UNO all the time! But we also have moments just the two of us for example baking or training yoga together.

And he has a subscription to the Parc de Princes because men in this family are real football fans! It’s their time together with his father, my brother and my father.

Our holidays

Either a discovery travel (California last year and probably Thailand this summer) only the three of us, or relaxing time with the whole bunch of friends on a beach in Greece.  Every year we go to the same hotel nearby the sea (you can find the name of this hotel in the “Elsewhere” category). So everyone can do anything he wants to and then we meet to share good time together. Once a year we try to organize a long weekend just the two of us with my husband.

Organization tips

Having “breakfast” dinners when the fridge is empty without feeling guilty! My son doesn’t have to eat in a canteen anymore – with a help of my friends-mothers, we have created a system where he can eat every time at one of our homes and share great time with his friends and family.

He also has “appointments” with his grandparents every week. It’s organized and written in the agenda and really essential in my opinion. His relations with them are one of my priorities – it’s a pure happiness to see them creating a real complicity.

Our last trip

The Wharhol exhibition at Modern Art Museum. And as my son is curious about what I do, he often comes with me to workshops.

Our little happiness

Every Friday I pick him up from school. We buy ice creams on Saint Louis island or we go to see a movie in a cinema. I often organize snacks for him and his friends at home. On Friday the weekend starts at 4:30 p.m.!
