INTERIOR

AT HOME WITH... CATHERINE MIKOLAJCZAK

My Home

When I got children, I decided to have a garden and to get closer to my family. I wanted to be near Marne river, the taverns and water… There is a real provincial atmosphere here, not far from Paris, which is perfect for me.

I wanted to get involved in the home project with works and decoration. Anything that relates to house is one of my greatest passions.

We fully imagined and designed the space both with my husband.

My home is inspired by Bali style. But in general, I prefer old houses from Lubéron. Who knows? Maybe it will be our next project!

What I really like in here

The serenity. Feeling really good here. I created a home that makes me feel good.

It’s my haven.

My style

I don’t change my style too often. I love a “globetrotter” decoration. I bring many things from my travels.

This home is made out of travels and souvenirs.

We can find a lot of natural materials elements, printed fabrics that I mix with coarser materials like metal. (Just like the structure of the house that is made with wood and metal). And many plants.

My colors

Those that make you think of spices: saffron, terracotta… I love everything that is natural and spicy.

Gardening

I started this passion very late. I need to see things growing and when my daughters became adults I needed something new.

So I do the gardening in a very maternal way!

I prune my trees, I spend a lot of time in the garden. I love everything that’s manual, crafts etc.

If I could magically change something…

I would like to have bigger house, more open, have more space.

And especially to start a new project.

My compulsive shopping

Pillows and plaids. I always bring them from my travels or buy them at Mona Market in Paris, or at Decoclico or Cosydar online.

Home fragrances

They are very important to me. There is always a candle burning at home.
Recently I discovered
Saint-Honoré of Sarah Lavoine.

I also often buy at Anthropologie website.

Les Sens de Marrakech brand also makes beautiful home fragrances.

I’m also a huge fan of Le Labo and their perfumes.

Artists at home

Obviously! On the walls, many things from urban and contemporary art. I have my private collection, artworks of JawHopareKanBloJean FaucheurDran

Those are artists from La Galerie 42b but also all my firm-favorites that I have collected for more than 16 years.

An artist I would love to have: Conor Harrington.

Next purchase

Micro-benches from Cosydar and their baskets.

On my bookshelves

Art books, vinyls and novels.

On my coffee table

Flowers that my husband buys me every Sunday, candles and books.

The room where I spend the most of time

The kitchen that is in the heart of home. I love putting a stool in front of the window and looking outside, looking at my garden.

When my third daughter was born, I stopped running and became much more contemplative.

An important object

It depends. Until now I was very attached to my military dining table. But right now it's my bird cage.

My perfect moment
I love early evenings. Everyone gets back home, my husband cooks and we drink a small glass of champagne.

We’re all together, we talk. This is a real family moment.

I’m not at all stressed about time, constraints, duties. Everyone lives at his own pace in this house.

What inspires me

Travels, magazines, anything I see when I walk. I am very curious: always looking up.

Our weekends

During the week we go out very often with my husband – exhibitions, dinners… So during the weekend the family is the most important.

Saturday is children’s day: shopping, restaurants, all together. Saturday evening we spend with friends: it’s easier to receive than to be invited with 5 children (my and my husband’s children)! So we cook and we receive. Or we just make a movie night.

On Sunday we go to a market and then we just enjoy the garden and Marne river. We love nature.

My dream

Leaving Paris for good, having a view of the Alpilles, being surrounded by the nature, hands in the ground. With the family and my man that I love being next to me.
