AT WORK WITH... LISE MEHYDENE, FOUNDER OF EDIT58

WAKING UP TIME

I get woken up by my son around 6.30am as he climbs into bed with me. I secretly love the cuddles but I’m not the friendliest at that time of the morning!

I get the children breakfast and then it’s the usual pre-school craziness of getting them both dressed, their bags ready and all the stuff they need for clubs prepared…

School is 5 mins away so I’m back home from 9am and start my ‘working day’ from then.

I collect the children from school at 3.20 and from there it’s all about them until they go to bed at 7pm. Once they are in bed I invariably log on again and do some work.

YOUR RESUME

Before starting Edit58 I worked as a director in the adverting agency. From London, Dubai and Singapore. I worked on various clients across the charity, retail and FMCG sectors.

CONNECTED 24H/24

My phone is always with me, but I’m getting much better at ‘switching off’ when I’m with the children. I’m trying hard to make work time and home time as separate as possible. It’s an ongoing struggle! And at the same time my business growth thanks to Instagram

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONNAL LIFE BALANCE

I might not always live by these but:

I allocate set periods for social media to avoid looking at my Instagram all day long.

I have a ‘done’ list alongside a ‘to do’ list. That always make me feel calmer.

I work from home so often schedule meetings on one or two days a week and concentrate on other stuff for the remainder of the week.

Ask for help! My husband is regularly pulled in to help with deliveries or talking to my suppliers (he speaks fluent Arabic so that helps!). I realised a long time ago that although I work for myself I can’t do it all by myself.  I recently hired a PR Director for the same reason.  Some things need a professional. That’s been a game-changer.

FROM MY MISTAKE I LEARNT

Always trust my instinct.

WHAT I AM THE PROUDEST OF

That I took the jump and started my own business, Edit 58.

MY ADVICES

Hire someone to help you. Don’t hesitate to ask for help in the field in which you’re less qualified. In my case I hire an accountant.

“Better to have tried and failed than to never have tried at all.”

I always try to remember this. Take a gamble – it might not pay off but it’s better to look back and have tried than to regret never having taken the chance.

MY MANTRA

Tomorrow is another day

AS A CHILD I USED TO DREAM OF

A number of things! Being a professional horse-rider, a Journalist, a fashion designer, an interior designer

NEXT STEP

This summer Edit58 will be announcing a very exciting collaboration.

We’re currently working hard to bring this to life. I can’t wait to share what it is!

TO RELAX

Go out for dinner and drinks with friends. I always forget about work once I’m out.
