AT HOME WITH... GAëLLE PELLETIER, DECORATOR

Several lives already ...

When I was a child, I used to live in the countryside, near Fontainebleau, where my mother still has a house and where I continue to come to recharge my batteries on weekends. Then I decided to live in London, Bali, Hong Kong. Even though these are megalopolis I realized that I had spent a lot of time on islands!

I did not provoke the fact of living abroad. But it was a natural thing after my studies. And then I met the father of my children and very quickly became an expatriate.

So Paris is a new thing for me. I live in the district of Luxembourg that I adore, for 3 years now.

My style

Heteroclite, vintage, baroque. My parents were antique dealers, so I grew up in this taste for furniture and antiques. I really forged my aesthetic sense thanks to them, even if my style is not theirs.

I love the 1930s for the objects and especially the shagreen that I found in Bali. The 1950s/60s for the chairs made by Prouvé, Le Corbusier...

I also love the contemporary design pieces, for example Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance and its meridian « Borghese »

My galleries and designers

The gallery Pouenat (to find in my addresses below), represents everything that I love.

I like the organic shapes, shagreen and coffee tables at R&Y Augousti, a shop on Rue du Bac.

Or the publishing house La Chance which publishes designers whose work I appreciate.

My Essentials

A beautiful table to organize dinners and spend time with friends or family. It's really worth it - when you can of course - to make it tailor-made. We have a unique piece and especially with the perfect dimensions. This is what I recommend to my clients.

And the lights. I love the gallery KréoTriode or Roll & Hill.

Candles

I buy my candles in pharmacy in my name:  Le Père Pelletier.

I love the humor! And I admit I have a real weakness for Trudon.

But in general the candle is today, like many other things, a social marker and I am against it.

My manias

To transform objects of their first use: a Goal Gas sign, flashes of photographers or Saint-Gobain radiators that are on my shelf, all transformed into lamps! Or utility objects - a tap, shoemakers ... - that I associate and accumulate, in order to make objects of decoration out of them.

My other obsession is to go during the weekend to the flea markets and Emmaüs outside of Paris. This is where I find the most of things: furniture, objects, and even often clothes.

My dream

A sculpture from Calder. It lives, it’s light and it’s moving. I've been dreaming of it for 30 years ...

The room where I live

As a decorator, I work from home, so my office is in my room. In general I spend a lot of time at home. I often suggest to my friends to come and have a cup of tea here instead of going to the cafe.

I love bringing people together. On weekends, the house is always full of friends and children.

Inspiration

Much on social networks, much less in magazines than before, but especially in flea markets. They always give me ideas and inspiration.

 Decoration is for living

I was raised with the idea that objects are made to live. We do not put anything in showcases. That's why at home we eat in silverware and plates from the 19th century. And if we break them, I will find others at Emmaus!

I am still attached to certain objects that have traveled all the countries with me, especially family things. Such as paintings that were made by two of my ancestors. Nothing can give me more pleasure than when my mother offers me as a gift something that belonged to our family. The last one was a bronze, offered for my 40 years and that I have always seen at home.
